Matthew 24:35-51 (The Return of the King)

Jun 26, 2026    Brad Gaillard

In this episode of Beneath the Word, we conclude our study of Matthew 24 by examining verses 35–51. We will explore the important transition from the signs surrounding the destruction of the Temple in AD 70 to Jesus' teaching about His future return—a day and hour that no one knows.

Rather than encouraging speculation about dates and timelines, Jesus calls every generation of believers to live with faithful obedience, constant readiness, and hopeful expectation.

In this episode, we'll discuss:

- The transition from Matthew 24:1–34 to 24:35–51

- Why "that day and hour" marks a shift in Jesus' teaching

- Heaven and earth passing away

- Why no one knows the day or hour of Christ's return

- The days of Noah and the suddenness of judgment

- "One taken and one left" in light of Luke 17

- The thief in the night

- The faithful and wicked servants

- Living ready for Christ's return

Whether you've always assumed this passage referred to the rapture or you've never considered another interpretation, this episode will help you carefully follow the flow of Jesus' teaching and see why His primary emphasis is not predicting the future—but faithfully serving until He returns.
